Visitors Welcome!

As Disciples of Christ, First Presbyterian Church exists to let people know that they matter to God, by showing them that they matter to us, in order that they may let others matter to them.

It is our hope that your visit to FPC will be refreshing, friendly and enjoyable for your whole family. We want you to experience inspiring music, meaningful sermons, friendly people and a place where you feel welcome and “at home”!

Are these people like me?

FPC is one of the most diverse congregations in this area and we welcome all who come to worship.

 Where do I park?

Sunday parking is easily found behind the church off William Street in the large lot behind the church.

There is a ramp entry at the rear of the church into the sanctuary and there is a family restroom on the first floor of the Social Hall Wing that is wheelchair accessible.  Large print bulletins are available for those who find them helpful. Please request any assistance you might need from one of our ushers.

What are the child care arrangements?

See the Child Care Schedule on our home page.   Our Crib Room/Nursery is located on the second floor of the Sunday School Wing and an usher will be happy to show you where it is.  All children are invited to attend Sunday School, to learn about God’s love for them in classes that are specifically tailored to their age and developmental stage, and later attend worship with their parents. All children are invited to join their parents in worship through the Children’s Message and then leave for special music time with their teacher. If parents are more comfortable, children are also welcome to return and sit with their parents during the rest of worship.

 What should I wear?

Our ministry leaders dress in more traditional “Sunday” dress.  About half the congregation likes to dress up and about half the congregation wears casual clothes to church. It is most important that you feel comfortable no matter what you wear. Our main goal is that you, as a visitor, would feel welcome and comfortable on your visit here at FPC. The Sanctuary is air conditioned in the summer.

 Who is the pastor?

Dr. Adelia Kelso is pastor at FPC.  Dedie is a transplanted Texan who enjoys downhill and cross country skiing.  She received her education at Rhodes College (B.A.), Union Presbyterian Seminary (M.Div.), Columbia Theological Seminary (Th.M.) and New College, University of Edinburgh, Scotland (Ph.D.) We believe you will find great warmth and meaning in her sermons and the adult education classes she leads.

Rev. Sarah Bishop is the Associate Pastor for Christian Formation and Education. Sarah joined us in June 2013 from Frankfort, KY as a Director of Christian Education and many years of internships and service to the PC (USA). She received her education from Muskingum University (B.A.) and Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary (M. Div.).  Sarah’s ministry is leading education and formation for the diverse children, youth and adults with imagination, creativity and a wonderful sense of humor.

 Can I take Communion?

Communion is open to all who attend services. We celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month.

 Did we forget something?

If there is something we missed on this list, just give us a call or ask someone when you arrive. Whether you’re new to the area and looking for a church home, or if it’s been a long time since you’ve attended church at all, we hope your first visit will be awesome!  We exist to serve you and your family, and we are looking forward to meeting you personally. We hope you’ll feel right at home from the very first moment you enter our church! Let us know how we can serve you better, and we hope to meet you this Sunday!

New members are received periodically (and joyfully). If you are interested in joining our fellowship, please make a note in the church register or call the church office at 574-234-4159.
